Yacht Charter from Split: Bases, Routes & What to Know

If you charter one boat in Croatia, it will most likely leave from Split. Central Dalmatia's capital sits in the middle of the coast with the richest cluster of islands within a day's sail, which is exactly why the biggest share of the country's charter fleet is based here and in neighbouring Trogir.

The marinas

“Split” on a charter listing usually means one of a few bases: ACI Marina Split and Split city port, or — very often — Trogir and Kaštela, both around 20–30 minutes from the airport. Always check the exact base marina before you book flights; the airport (SPU) actually sits closer to Trogir than to Split itself.

A classic one-week route

The islands off Split make an almost perfect seven-day loop:

• Day 1 — embark, provision, short hop to Mašlinica or Rogač on Šolta.
• Day 2 — across to the Pakleni islands off Hvar; anchor at Palmižana.
• Day 3 — Hvar town, then Stari Grad or the Zavša bays.
• Day 4 — open water to Vis, the furthest, wildest island; Komiža for the night.
• Day 5 — the Blue Cave on Biševo at first light, then Vis town.
• Day 6 — north to Brač; Bol and the Zlatni Rat beach, or the quiet Lučice bays.
• Day 7 — back toward base with a swim stop on Šolta.

When to go

June and September are the sweet spot from Split — warm water, reliable afternoon maestral, and none of the August marina crush. If you can only sail in peak summer, anchor rather than rely on town quays and reach each island by early afternoon.

Tips specific to Split

• Provision in Split or Trogir before you leave — island shops are small and pricier.
• Book Hvar town's quay ahead in July/August, or anchor at Palmižana and take the taxi-boat in.
• Vis has no big supermarket; top up before the crossing.
